Volunteers
Volunteers are important in helping to serve the daily needs of campus residents. Our volunteers provide indispensable assistance essential to maximizing the quality of life for many persons in a continuing care community.
Menno Haven Volunteers are a a special group of people giving of their time and talent. They average a total of 50,000 hours of community service per year to our communities. These hours, offered in many different capacities assist the employees of the Menno Haven campuses in carrying out our mission.
Our volunteers may enjoy a set schedule for volunteering, or a varied schedule that fits in with their busy lifestyle. We also have opportunities for those who are available on a seasonal basis. Whatever time you have to offer, it will be greatly appreciated. Volunteers receive orientation to our campus and will receive specific training for their position.
Many of our residents, along with volunteers from the Greater Chambersburg Community, support our campus communities by sharing their time and talent
Our volunteers serve in many ways such as:
- Transporting residents to doctor's appointments
- Pushing wheelchairs to physical therapy, beauty salon or the chapel
- Accompanying residents to the wellness centers or social activities
- Assist with special events and resident programs
- Driving the campus transportation vehicles
- Providing office support
- Store clerks
- Camcorder operators
- Ushers
- Host/ hostesses
- Marketing Ambassadors
- Visiting and comforting residents
- And many other ways!
Junior Volunteers are ages 13-18. Upon completion of orientation, juniors are scheduled and trained to volunteer as transporters – taking residents to in-house appointments, assisting with resident activities, or in our ElderDay, providing office support, delivering water pitchers and assisting where-ever needed.
Being a volunteer is a way of showing people that you care. Everyone has some skill to offer. The qualifications needed to be a volunteer are simple. You need to be dependable, enthusiastic and…above all…be able to show love and compassion to others.
